04.04.12 - Should I colour my grey hair?

I HAVE NEVER COLOURED MY HAIR BUT I’M BEGINNING TO GET A FEW WHITE HAIRS, WHAT SHOULD I DO TO COVER THEM UP?

White hair is caused by a reduction in the amount of melanin your body produces. It is melanin that gives your hair its natural colour.

Here’s what we recommend to manage your grey hairs:

  • Hide the first few grey hairs with a semi-permanent colour in the same shade as your natural colour. The result will fade out over 8 weeks giving little regrowth. Or a few high-lights and low –lights which will blend in with the hair.
  • Mask up to 50% white hair with long lasting results do a semi-permanent colour to add shine and tone.
  • Disguise 75% white hair with a mixture of low and highlights. On the darker sections go for lighter shades, or the lighter sections, warmer shades. This can only be done at a salon and will need redoing every 3-4 months.
  • Replace colour completely by using a permanent colour, which grows out leaving a regrowth (roots will need retouching every 5-8 weeks.) Choose a shade slightly lighter than your original colour to avoid any hardness. Also placing a few high-lights on the parting and fringe areas will soften the regrowth.
  • Wanting to stay white but want to soften it . We have a range of coloured CONDITIONING TREATMENT (GLAM COLOR) for white hair, Blonde to give a creamier colour, Caramel to give so warth to white hair, and Crystal to give a clean white and clean up yellowness.
